How it works

The principle behind the specification.

Why a size range and not one size

A graded charge grinds better than a uniform one. Large balls have the mass to break the coarse feed; small balls fill the gaps between them and do the fine work, because grinding rate depends on the number of contact points as much as on the energy per impact. As media wears it moves down the range, which is why a charge is topped up with large balls rather than replaced wholesale.
